Cartoon questions
1. This cartoon shows that AFL is a very important part of the football lifestyle, AFL is an icon of Australia and the clear evidence of this is this cartoon. It shows Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip are here to watch the AFL, even if they are only here because they politically have to.
2. I think that this cartoon is very accurate because it shows that the Australian population loves AFL now and then. People still get together to celebrate and watch the grand final.
3. When I say football I refer to the sport of soccer, as it is globally know as football and was the first sport to be called football. I believe that football is the proper name for soccer and that AFL should be called Australian Rules Handball.
4. Australian's of all age love AFL and all sports because sports are a way to be competitive, have fun and get away from normal life. Sports let people get competitive with friends while they are versing them directly or versing them indirectly by following a team each and the teams are versing each other. Friends and family also get together to celebrate their team winning.
5. I believe that it is good that sport gets this much coverage because sport combines a country or group of people to work together and celebrate a victory or lean on each others shoulders in a loss.
Poem 'Life-Cycle'
1. I think that this poem is a good representation of the human life cycle. When you're born and then throughout your whole life you grow on people's values and beliefs, in this poem people give you their beliefs for their team and they try to get you to follow their team. In life you are always changing your values because of the impact of the people around you.
2. I think that another sport would work because when I was born I was impacted by soccer teams instead of AFL teams.
3. The word 'carn' works with the AFL because it has a very large and loud atmosphere, while 'carn' would not work in the opera because of the atmosphere, the atmosphere is very quite in the opera and you would probably get kicked out if you started shouting in the opera.
4. The pieces of work are very similar because they are both talking about sport and the atmosphere that sport creates. The difference is one sport is very popular in England while the other one is very popular in Australia.
5a. The humour in this poem really affects the tone, the humour makes the poem more relatable as the reader thinks "haha, we do a have a bit of a reputation for eating hot pies and potato-crisps". I think that the tone of humour was affectionate, the author was making a bit of fun of something he liked. The author liked that everyone eats hot pies at the footy but he was also making fun of it.
5b. Two phrases are "Hot pies and potato-crisps they will eat." this means that the kid will grow up and go to the AFL and eat some hot pies or chips and have a good time. Another phrase is "they are like innocent monsters who have been years swimming" in this phrase the author is saying the kid has been swimming for years to his goal, this means that the kid has been wanting to go to the AFL for years but now gets his chance.
